Working safely with coating powders
Plan safe work around the product SDS, equipment instructions and workplace risk assessment. “Solvent-free” does not mean “risk-free”.
This page is not a product safety data sheet or a workplace safety procedure. Determine hazard classification and specific controls from the applicable SDS and local requirements.
Before opening the package
Match the product code and read its label and latest SDS. Locate the hazard, first-aid, fire, spill, handling, storage and exposure-control information. Identify an unknown product before use.
Control dust at its source
Use suitable extraction and check that it operates. Avoid breathing dust, leaning into the spray cloud or spraying towards another worker. If extraction fails, follow the workplace stop procedure.
Prevent fire and electrostatic ignition
Prevent powder-dust accumulation and exclude ignition sources. Check equipment, workpiece and personnel grounding measures as specified by the system manufacturer. A competent specialist must assess equipment suitability for the environment.
Clean without creating a dust cloud
Do not use compressed air to clean clothing. Collect dust using equipment specified by the workplace procedure; a domestic vacuum is not automatically suitable. Safely isolate equipment before maintenance.
Personal protection and hygiene
Select gloves and eye, skin and respiratory protection using the SDS and risk assessment. Respiratory protection does not replace dust control. Do not eat or drink in the work area; wash hands before breaks.
Prepare for incidents in advance
Keep the SDS and site emergency plan accessible. Follow product-specific instructions and training for first aid, firefighting and spilled powder. Do not dispose of powder waste into drains.
