Matching RAL and Pantone colours
Different systems use different references. RAL-coated metal and a Pantone print sample are not automatically equivalent colours.
There is no universal exact RAL-to-Pantone conversion. Legacy tables without a defined Pantone library and measurement conditions cannot serve as final colour approval.
1. Specify the full Pantone reference
For example, C and U refer to different print-paper finishes; textile and other material libraries are also different. A number alone is insufficient. Ask the designer for the exact reference.
2. Use official digital tools as a starting point
Pantone Connect supports Pantone libraries and nearest digital colour references. It does not certify that a selected RAL or powder coating product will exactly match. Some features may require an account or subscription.
3. Approve a coated sample
Compare the reference and trial finish under agreed lighting, on the intended substrate and at the selected gloss. Agree acceptable variation and retain the approved sample for production control.
